PLAY-MONEY POKER GUIDE
Poker with friends, no money involved
Agree on a game where the chips are just points. Everyone starts with the same stack, and nobody needs to deposit money, buy chips, or settle a balance afterward.
Create a tablePlay money only: no real money, no prizes, no cash-out.
How it works in 3 steps
- Agree on the format. Choose casual play if people will come and go, or a tournament if everyone wants a clear finish. Tell the group that chips have no cash value.
- Choose comfortable stakes in points. A 2,000-chip starting stack with 10/20 blinds gives beginners room to learn. These numbers set the pace of decisions; they never represent currency.
- Reset when it helps. In a casual game, use the table’s chip controls to keep friends involved. For a tournament, explain elimination before starting and begin a new tournament when it ends.
A useful table tip
Decide whether your evening is about learning or competition. In a learning game, talk through decisions after the hand so nobody’s hidden cards are revealed early.
